Thyroid health is a big topic, and a big part of my naturopathic practice. Today we explore it in Episode 8 of the Tonic Podcast.
In this podcast you’ll learn:
- What the thyroid gland is, and how IMPORTANT it is for you and your entire body’s health
- What to look for in hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
- How to test your thyroid with medical practitioners and at home on your own
- What thyroid issues might mean from a mind-body perspective
- The importance of finding your voice, speaking your truth and giving voice to what’s in your heart
- Why medicine is just one big experiment
- Foods to consider avoiding and nutrients to consider including if you’re suffering from thyroid issues.
Show Notes:
In this conversation, we somehow missed one of the major flags of thyroid imbalance: Weight gain and inability to lose weight.
Here is a list of symptoms that might be showing up for you if your thyroid is out of wack:
- Weight gain
- Trouble losing weight
- Coarse, Dry skin
- Hair loss
- Constipation
- Depression
- Lethargy, fatigue, exhaustion
- Cold body temperature, cold extremities, cold intolerance
- Muscle cramps and weakness
- Heavy menstrual bleeding or painful periods
- Trouble concentrating and focusing
- Poor memory…
… and it goes on, but these are the most common. You can see why this is a big part of my practice. And while all these symptoms could be related to other systems it is highly likely that the thyroid health should be explored in these cases.

Thank you Tonia. I am going to Dr. Beveridge tomorrow and he wants to discuss my thyroid. I had blood tests two weeks ago and he wants to see me. The locum, Dr. Fumar was there when I went in the first time and he ordered blood tests. Dad.
