Who loves sleep? I do I do! You do you do!
Who gets enough sleep? Sadly, not most people. Statistics Canada reports that 55% of people ages 18 to 64 have trouble going to sleep or staying asleep. That’s more than half of Canadian adults!
Why do we need sleep? I know… I have so many questions for you today. Well… to quote the Stat’s Can Report: “Insufficient sleep (short duration and poor quality) is associated with a range of adverse health outcomes, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, injuries, all-cause mortality, depression, irritability, and reduced well-being.”
How much sleep do we need? Again, from that same report, “For adults aged 18 to 64 and seniors aged 65 or older, 7 to 9 hours and 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, respectively, are recommended.”
Sleep is key to a healthy body and happy mind. It’s when we heal. It’s when we grow. It’s when we repair. It’s when we recharge our batteries. You don’t sleep you die.
There are several articles on this handy website all about sleep, how to get more of it and how to get better of it.
How to Fall Asleep
Let’s start with a video. This is a technique that I share with my patients and have used personally. It works!! But, it might not work the first night or the night after that. Keep practicing. Keep practicing. It will create new neural pathways that will guide you easily into the land of zzzzz’s.
